NYPD Red by James Patterson
4.0
3.5 stars for the audiobook version
As an audiobook, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this. The switching between two narrators along with the POV of the chapters worked very well, and Edoardo Ballerini is very talented. The only voice that got annoying was the female protagonist, Kylie McDonald. It was just a little too breathy and weak for a woman who clearly was a strong character.
For the book itself - it was a beach read, with a plot that was somehow both interesting and predictable at the same time. The characters were somewhat one-dimensional, but I think listening to an audiobook of it helped. Nothing about this is an excellent book, but it was an enjoyable experience, even if it was eye-roll inducing at times.
I often say that you can't evaluate music based on what it is not. Justin Beiber makes pop. He's good at it. Just because you don't like pop doesn't mean he's not good at it. James Patterson writes pop. It's never going to win a literary award, but he's good at it.
