The Long Ships by Frans G. Bengtsson

4.0

Listened in conjunction with watching Vikings on Netflix. Could be seen as a Nordic version of the Odyssey, but the travel theme is less direct and more comedic. Closer in tone to some of the Canterbury Tales, though it has a narrative that is strung together instead of independent stories. The recurring discussion of the Nordic pagan religion versus the (in this narrative) nagging new Christian religion is ripe fodder for absurdity.

Though this is a modern work, it fits seamlessly into Medieval genre it seeks to imitate.
