OUR WIVES UNDER THE SEA is creeping, eerie horror, and a poignant story about love and loss. Chapters of alternating POV tell the story of Leah, a marine biologist who has returned to her wife Miri after a routine submarine expedition gone wrong.

OUR WIVES has a strong feeling of inevitability, of walking toward your own doom and knowing that you don't want to go where you're headed, but being unable to stop. Despite the slow pace, I found myself pulled deep into the fathoms of this story and unable to put it down until I finished.

Julia Armfield is a beautiful writer who knows how to set a MOOD. This is very much a book of vibes and rich metaphor over straightforward plot, in a way that I think made the story much more haunting than if everything was neatly spelled out. The more I think about OUR WIVES, the more I am impressed by it. If this sounds interesting to you, I highly recommend picking it up.
