Wow, what a wild ride! Dark Matter was my first dive into the sci-fi thriller genre, and it did not disappoint. The story follows Jason, a physicist who gave up his groundbreaking research 15 years ago to focus on his family, becoming a physics professor instead. One fateful night, he’s kidnapped, and suddenly, he finds himself navigating the Multiverse, thrown into different realities where both he and his loved ones are living entirely different lives.
What I loved most was how Blake Crouch balanced complex scientific ideas with storytelling that kept me hooked. While the multiverse concept might seem daunting, the author makes it surprisingly easy to follow without sacrificing the thrill. The plot twists blew my mind, and I felt completely invested in Jason’s quest to return to his wife, Daniela, and his son, Charlie.
Through Jason’s disorientation, confusion, and grief, you can feel the strain of existing in multiple worlds, and it truly takes a toll on his mental health. You can’t help but root for him as he fights his way back to the life he cherishes most.
The story’s pacing, tension, and emotional depth kept me engaged throughout, and I loved how it pushed the boundaries of both science fiction and thriller genres. This was a 4-star read for me, and while it’s my first sci-fi thriller, it certainly won’t be my last. I’ll definitely be picking up more from Blake Crouch in the future!
