this is so heartbreaking. i felt trista’s pain throughout this book like it was mine. completely heartfelt and raw and pure genuineness. i’m amazed. it really captures the words of heartbreak right out of my mouth!

“My heart
looks like a bruise
and I almost don’t mind.
God, I almost don’t mind.”

-

“I wait for you to find your
way back to the world we made for each other,
the place where it was safe for you to want me.”

-

“In Which Fear Sleeps Between Us

You call it a sin when we kiss
and you only hear the word unholy
in your mother’s voice.
What a slow way to die, baby.
Day after day after day.”

-

“Like a bag of frozen peas, I want to press you up against everything sore.”

-

“Unsent Text Message

I dreamt about you
three different times
last night.
I need this to be over.”

-

“It was not brave to break like that. It was not brave to write those poems. It was not even brave to stop.
It was just hard.”

-

“I just want to leave your name on a page somewhere and never need to come back to it.”

-

“The first time I really heard my own name, it was in your mouth.”

-

“LOVE IS PATIENT, LOVE IS KIND, I AM NEITHER OF THOSE THINGS, AND I AM ALSO NOT IN LOVE WITH YOU ANYMORE”
