I think I may have liked this more in print. The narrator wasn’t the best, and there were some weird sound effects that felt completely unnecessary. There’s plenty of tension in a story about Indigenous people on the run from white people who literally want to harvest their bone marrow. I don’t need spooky sound effects to build more tension. Regardless of the audio, there are a few beautiful moments that are staying with me. This is engaging on its own just as a story, but it’s very powerful as a metaphor for cultural appropriation, especially in terms of Indigenous wisdom and spirituality.
Graphic: Forced institutionalization, Kidnapping, and Cultural appropriation
Moderate: Child death, Gun violence, Violence, and Cultural appropriation
