I found myself completely enthralled and immersed in this historical fiction-folklore/legend beautifully written book. I listened to it with Ms. Moore narrating and it was completely captivating!
It's hard to describe how effortlessly she wove honest, uncomfortable history with mythological magic with tragic, torturing pain along with unyielding hope for freedom into a complex and complete multi-time-content story in such a compelling way that I found myself Googling and mapping Liberia wanting to learn more. Nothing about this book was shallow! I am so glad I read it!
