OHMYGOD MADDOX MADDOX MADDOX
I'll admit, Trent was a let down for me in comparison to Travis and even Camille didn't touch me that much.
BUT OH HOLY HELL THESE TWO.
I've fallen in love all over again.
I don't really know where to begin with this but here it goes because I'm all up in feels right now.
“Don’t you know by now?” Thomas said, touching his lips to my hair. “It’s somewhere in the unforeseen when the best, most important moments of our lives seem to happen.”
Liis Lindy is an FBI transfer agent in San Diego as an undercover translator. Though her family life is completely normal, her love life has flopped and running away is her strategy as she takes the offer to move.
The night before starting the job, she has a one night stand with a certain Maddox, unknown to her that he is her boss and Liis is off to a greeat start.
However, Liis is all business and has a 0% tolerance for bullshit.
“I lost someone I loved before, and it changed me. I gave up someone I loved before, and it crushed me. I know that when you leave, Liis, however it goes down...it will end me.”
Thomas Maddox. Sweet damn. He's the 'Special Agent in Charge' at Liis's new workplace. He's an arrogant ass who's tough but he gets the results from his agents and he's renowned as one of the best of the Bureau. Hurt from Camille, he's never been the same. Until Liis bites back at him. And he can't help but be impressed.
“You need to get one thing straight. I am not bossy. I'm the fucking boss.”
Oh.My.God. I loved Liis. She was someone who could handle herself, I mean really, even with Thomas, she wasn't gullible. What was even cuter was that typical Maddox was pining for her. Sounds familiar? Yes. But Liis genuinely had a plan. Married to her work, although she was falling for Thomas, she knew every step of the way that it couldn't ever work out. There were several reasons to them not being together no matter how badly they wanted it.
I really felt this wasn't your typical Maddox love story though. It was actually refreshing because I definitely felt Trent's story was a bit like Travis' ultimately. But Thomas was just gorgeous.
“My tough shell melted at the sight of his tough shell melting.”
He wanted Liis. He so did and he was pretty open about it. Some times we saw the arrogant, cocky Maddox, but ohmygod the vulnerability and disappointment he showed when Liis was being all badass and straight and real with him- GAH!
He definitely had issues though in terms of his past, and I felt so bad for the way his last relationship ended and funnily enough, it kind of made me dislike Trent and Camille a bit more if I did at all (I know I'm sorry! :/).
“I loved her first,” Thomas said. “But you, Liis…you are the last woman I will ever love.”
Furthermore, these two aren't two lovesick, horny teens like, if I may say, Travis and Abby, so I felt this was a bit more mature and given the type of people they are and the jobs that they are in, I think their love is different than what some expected as in it's not all hot and bothersome. They have so many moments with all the messed up feelings with Liis unsure about how a relationship fits into her life and Thomas trying to convince her as well as himself I'd say that he's moved on.
“Your brother Trent. And Travis. And you’re Thomas. Who am I missing? Tiger and Toadstool?”
AND we get to see more Travis and Abby! We actually get a lot of insight and fill in as to what really happens with the fire and the implications that were at stake for the two of them. A lot of dots are connected.
“I'm not going to let you run away, and you're not going to put up with my shit.”
ABSKCJBSKCB I really, really loved these two. I'm seeing that some don't feel the same but dayum!
I'm feeling the love for Thomas and Liis <3
