Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler

5.0

I loved this book becasue of its ability to manifest a visceral reaction to a character and a relationship. I wish to kill Doro a thousand times over. Doro’s fucked up eugenics experiment and the motivation for it makes me want to slice him from his asshole to his mouth. Doro and Anyanwu’s interactions pissed me off to the high heavens but I was SOOOOOOO invested.

The theme topics and questions presented were phenomenal. Dominance and Submission. Creation and Destruction: can these two constructs live in harmony? What is taboo, unconditional love, freedom, loneliness, etc. when you are immortal?

This book comes with SERIOUS trigger warning: manipulation, emotional/verbal abuse, incest, attempted rape, death, and a couple more…just expect your typical Butler mindfuck.
