Galatea by Madeline Miller
5.0
In "Galatea," Madeline Miller surfaces the misogyny inherent in Ovid's Pygmalion myth, telling the story from the eyes of Galatea, Pygmalion's statue come to life. Miller's story blurs literary genre boundaries and connects Galatea's story to other historical oppression of women, such as non-compliant women being institutionalized by their husbands. The story is dark, simple and effective, and the ending is satisfying, but leaves you haunted.
