Ink & Sigil by Kevin Hearne

4.0

This was a very fun read (listen, technically). I wasn't familiar with the Iron Druid universe before reading this, but that didn't feel like a disadvantage.

The world was absolutely incredible. There was a great level of detail while also leaving enough unexplored to leave me curious about more. Al was a fun main character; I appreciate books with older protagonists (though there were moments where it seemed like the book forgot how old he was supposed to be). My favorite part, though, was how Hearne was able to weave in these really touching, heartfelt moments(Al's conversation with one of the Tuatha De Danann about how things have changed over time in particular stands out).

On the downside, some of the humor was frustratingly immature. There were infinitely more "your mom" jokes than any book should have, and I'm really glad I listened to the audiobook so I didn't have to see "Buck Foi" written out on a regular basis (Buck Foi evidently just being an ol' switcheroo of fuck boi).

Despite some flaws, it's overall a fun read and a great universe. 3.5 rounded up.
