The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass

hopeful mysterious sad tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This review is really just going to be my dumb thoughts on this book that I promise I did like. I just got so confused because the plot seemed to be split between this light horror story and this amazing romance. Individually I think they were good, but it felt like they clashed and just felt disembodied. Also the specifics of what happened in like the astral projection sort of thing, like literal light canons just felt out of place when I first read them.
Overall though this book is good and I hate that I didn’t love it.
I will definitely have to read Ryan Douglass’ future books though
