The Barista's Guide to the Perfect Steam by Valerie Pepper

5.0

5/5 stars! I received this ARC to share my honest thoughts on. This is my very first ARC, so I went in with unsure expectation. I’ve never read a Valerie Pepper novel and I cannot say enough good things about this book. Thank you Valerie Pepper for allowing me to be an ARC reader!

This book is my favorite of the year. #1 in small town romance in my collection and I read a lot of small town romance. I could not put it down. I was laughing out loud, and giggling through this entire book. Price is such a cutie. I am very used to seeing self-doubt in the female main characters, but he had his fair share of the “she’s too good for me” not in an annoying way, but in an endearing and sweet way. All the characters are well developed. I will say I’m a little confused about Will. He seems to be a huge grump and I hope that’s explained.

Normally the best friends are slightly annoying and I find myself wishing to skip over their some of their conversations, but Jodi’s bff’s weren’t annoying and had my laughing out loud with their banter. It all felt natural.

These characters truly felt like friends/family. I’m so sad this book is over. I cannot wait for the next book. If I had to pick my least favorite character it was Will and I don’t even dislike him. He’s just Mr. Scary. (Iykyk) Can’t wait to read about him in the next book to see how his Mr. Scary vibes melt away because they have to! (They have to, right?!)

This is a 10/10 (and I found no typos!) this is an HEA, with a slight third act breakup situation, but I really loved this novel because the third act “breakup” didn’t feel like a breakup and since I love these characters, I was dreading it. It was enough, but not too much, if that makes sense!

Being able to be a part of something so insanely special with Jodi finding herself, made me smile ear to ear the whole time. It felt like I was cheering on my best friend.

It doesn’t have a super complex plot, but it has a nice mix of serious, flirty, funny, and friendly banter and situations. It was well balanced and I never found myself getting bored. This is such a good beach read or fall/summer porch read.
