The Theory of Everything Else by Dan Schreiber

4.0

This isn't so much a book about weird science as people with weird beliefs, many of whom happen to be remarkable and successful for legitimate things, like Apollo mission astronauts believing in psychic powers and messages from God. It's a fun and entertaining romp that will give you plenty of dinner table stories to spark conversations with friends and families. The book's overall message is that it's important for our world to let people be a bit "batshit" - that it makes our world more entertaining but also inspires very real societal and technological advances. The only thing that bothered me was that there were a couple of times where I felt Schreiber ignored the harm of a particular batshit theory, like the antisemitism associated with the belief in Lizard People.
