What a remarkable memoir of a former cult member. Bethany, lovingly known to One Tree Hill fans as Hayley James Scott, fell trap to a lowkey cult, to which she was mentally abused and tortured for ten years. The amount of gaslighting that was done to her, reading how her dreams and hard earned money was taken away from her was so difficult but it also showed the scary ways of how a cult functions. I’ve always been intrigued by how cults work and the quiet ways in which they slowly start to indoctrinate you. This is only a small fraction of many other small cults, but it was so important that she lent her voice towards the impact that a cult has on a person, and how anyone (literally) can fall trap to a cult without even realising it.
