Dune by Frank Herbert

4.0

Read this after watching the new movies so that image was living in my head. While the visuals and acting were stunning, I appreciated the greater depth in the text, especially in fleshing out the dynamic relationships between characters given their oft-conflicting motives (ex. with Hawit, Gurney, and Lady Jessica) as well as developing the Fremen so they felt more nuanced. The writing style could be confusing, as it shifted perspectives rapidly, but in most cases that added to the political intrigue and escalating tensions.
