Strange the Dreamer is a book with absolutely beautiful writing and an even more beautiful story. I was heartbroken when I found out this is a duology and that my bookstore didn't have it in stock. Guess I'll have to wait for the next part!

Throughout the book, you follow two points of views. The first follows the main character, Lazlo. I found myself absolutely adoring his character and his nature. The second follows Sarai, who I also found myself growing extremely fond of.

The characters in this book were very well written, though a little frustrating at times with certain characters. However, you loved the ones you were meant to love, and hated the ones you were meant to hate so that's was well accomplished.

Though the story was incredibly well written, with beautiful words and description, I will say that the pace of the book is rather slow. It picked up speed closer to the end but for majority of the book, it was very slow paced. When it did pick up speed, I had screamed a few times and was incredibly invested.

I loved the underlying theme that was throughout the book. It explored how good people can do bad actions and how bad people aren't necessarily evil. It really gives a depth for the characters that are considered “bad” or the characters that are “good” may not be as virtuous as it is. Good and evil are not black and white, as shown very well in this book.

There was a plot twist nearing the end of the book, however I was able to guess that about 150 pages before it was revealed. It may just be me but I thought it was a little obvious. Nevertheless, it was a very pleasant twist which sets us up very well for the next book “Muse of Nightmares”.

Overall, I think it is a good book, though a little slow to read at first. However, I can guarantee that you will fall in love with the main character and hopefully, the cliffhanger at the end is enough to make you want to read book 2 in this duology. It certainly was enough for me.
