This is the story of Paul and Vanni. Matt, Vanni's husband and Paul's best friend was killed in action. Paul had been in love with Vanni since he and Matt met her but Paul didn't speak up fast enough and she and Matt met, fell in love, married, got pregnant and Matt was sent back overseas. After Matt was killed, Paul was afraid to tell Vanni how he felt. A lot of misunderstandings ensue but, of course, they finally get together. There are stories involving Jack and Mel, Joe and Vanni's bff, Nikki. A lot happens in this book keeping me riveted (and shedding more than a few tears). I love this series. We continue to see all the characters from previous books and how their lives are progressing. Would definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves the hometown-type stories.
