Eugénie Grandet by Honoré de Balzac

4.0

This could have been titled The Awakening as the poor Eugenie loses her innocence and learns about the real world. I absolutely love the details in 19th century novels - at times you feel smothered by them, but it is such a refreshing change from the sparse prose of contemporary lit, that I feel rejuvenated!
