The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna
Did not finish book. Stopped at 14%.
This just wasn't what I thought it would be. The world is a super religious one where it says in their sacred texts women were created as help mates for men, women aren't allowed around without a male escort and once they hit maturity they have to cover their face from forehead to nose.
Then she bleeds gold, and the whole introduction to another life thing isn't what the blurb implied - she thinks she's a demon and keeps praying and it's just...not for me.
The writing is good but this is not a world I want to spend any time in, especially if they're not going to over throw this terrible system of oppression.
