I had high expectations for this because Tana French, but I did not expect it to be my second favorite of hers (after The Likeness). Anyone who goes into it expecting a fast-paced mystery that starts with a bang will be disappointed, but I absolutely loved the slow build and increasing tension along the way. And the ENDING. I feel like I should've thought of it but never did, which to me is one of the marks of a great mystery. I'm now even more excited for the next Cal Hooper (assuming there is a next), and crossing my fingers it won't take another four years.
