The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell
4.0
⭐️ 3.5
Lisa Jewell presents us with another captivating mystery thriller in “The Family Upstairs.” The novel follows Libby Jones, a designer kitchen saleswoman who turns 25 and receives a life-changing letter. This letter reveals an inheritance promised to her on her 25th birthday—a multi-million dollar home in a sought-after neighborhood. The allure of this inheritance not only draws Libby’s attention but also the attention of many others.
As the story unfolds, the reader is taken on a journey through twists and turns that gradually reveal the truth about the home and its former occupants. Along the way, we discover that Libby has a much more extensive family than she ever imagined, with a dark and sinister history.
I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, particularly when we switched the narrative perspective to Henry, the co-protagonist. Through Henry’s recollections, we relived his childhood and witnessed his journey up to the present day. Jewell’s skillful storytelling has crafted a compelling narrative that leaves the reader eager to delve deeper into the lives of these characters and uncover more secrets.
The novel concludes on a satisfying note, providing a sense of closure while leaving the door open for future installments. Jewell’s masterful storytelling has set the stage for an intriguing series that promises to captivate readers with its intricate plotlines and well-developed characters.
