Red River Resistance by Katherena Vermette

3.0

I just finished reading this comic and my first thought was: it's alright. I liked how this comic was about the Red River Resistance, having never read anything about First Nations people before. Their stories aren't often told in this format, and I think it's a way that is very approachable. I also liked that the author is Métis herself. The pace was perfect, not too fast and not too slow. Something however I missed was Echo's involvement. Since it's 'A Girl Called ECHO' I would have expected it to be more centred around her. Instead she felt more like a bystander. I liked the style of the illustrations, only in some panels I felt the faces could have been improved a bit.

A sincere thank you to NetGalley and Portage & Main Press for the ARC.
