Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

In this first instalment of the Peculiar Children series we follow our main character, Jacob. In his words, his life has a before and after and this book follows the aftermath of a tragic event which leaves him doubting his own sanity. Jacob is left to discover the true meaning of his Grandather's words as he discovers a world full of peculiar children.

My favourite aspect of this book was Jacob. He was such a realistic characters with such relatable concerns that I found myself feeling truly invested in his story. There is also an element of mystery in this novel that I truly enjoyed because I think it added a bit more oomph to the plot, we weren't just following a lost boy.

Random note: In this edition I loved reading the author notes/interview at the end of the book which explained how all photos are actually real discovered ones! Just thought that added to the reading experience.

The little bit that is stopping me from giving this book a full 5 stars is that I found the end of the book a bit weaker than the rest. I feel like some things felt a bit easy and coincidental, and seemed to lack a bit of thought. However, I was still 100% transfixed by Jacob and his new friends, and will definitely be continuing on with the series.
