The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

5.0

Read #2:
My original review still stands, but after retreading The Friend Zone and reading Life’s Too Short, it’s become clear to me that this was Abby Jimenez’s work of love.

Read #1:
This book had ALL of the emotions, and I am here for it. I loved Sloan in The Friend Zone and was completely shattered for her when Brandon died. In fact, I dropped that book for a solid week to recover. Those emotions came speeding back a few pages into this book, but Abby Jimenez did such an amazing job showing Sloan’s path of healing and self-worth. She may be one of my favorite characters ever. There were so many obstacles to face and chances for her to crumble, but she had a strength to her that I adored.

I didn’t think I’d like reading about her finding love with someone else - like nobody could stand up to what seemed so amazing in the first book. But Jason was such a wonderful fit for her in the end. I loved that he was confident and assertive while simultaneously giving her exactly what she needed to find her own way to him.

The rockstar drama isn’t really my cup of tea, and I honestly could have done with a different foil to their romance, but it ended with that amazing concert scene, so I can’t really complain.

I’m also extremely happy everyone ended up in small town Minnesota. It nagged at me in the first book that Josh was still working at the fire station when there had been hints he’d be happier in the wilderness. It may have been a stray sentence in the Epilogue, but I was happy he ended up there in the end.
