This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar

3.0

(read as eBook)

What's it about?
It's a short science fiction book about two agents on opposite sides in time travelling war. Red is an agent for a techno-centric society, while Blue is an agent for the nature centric "Garden". Their jobs are to travel through time, influencing things so that the future in which their side triumphs prevails.

They start leaving letters for each other, at first taunting each other, but then it evolves into a complicated relationship. About half the book are the letters, with short vignettes in between.

What did I think?
It was alright. It was certainly different. There wasn't a huge amount of plot, rather the book focuses on the relationship between Red and Blue. The descriptions of the missions that Red and Blue undertake are very interesting. The book is very poetic, lyrical even. It seemed a bit overdone/overwrought at times.
