Once I Knew by Victoria Lynn is the first book in the Chronicles of Elira series. This non-magical fantasy is set in medieval times and gives you a beautiful look at faith through the eyes of someone who loses almost everything and yet still believes. There are a few different Bible stories that came to mind when reading this well-written novel - stories such as Job and the Good Samaritan. Our two main characters also give me a Cinderella meets Robin Hood vibe which I absolutely adore!

If you are looking for a Christian Romantic Fantasy with zero magic, a strong faith element entwined into the story, and a swoony and fiery (but not spicy) love story than Once I Knew by Victoria Lynn is it! Obed and Violet are such beautifully written characters. I love that Victoria does not shy away from real, fragile, and broken people but instead brings them to life in a powerful way, wrapped in the love of our Father in heaven. Their journey both together and apart drives home the fact that all that we have comes from Christ and He is the only one we can rely on through the trials of life. He is a constant and steady presence, walking us through the storm just as He walked through the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

I highly recommend anyone age 13+ pick up this novel and read it!
