A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

3.0

This short story took me longer to finish than expected. This may be due to the 'flowery' and scenic writing style. Multiple times I had to read a sentence again, because I felt like I'd miss something if I didn't take in every word or description.

What I liked most was the symbolism of the three spirits. Like the extinguisher-cap the ghost of Christmas Past and what happens when Scrooge tries to use it to extinguish the spirit's light:

'[...] but though Scrooge pressed it down with all his force, he could not hide the light: which streamed from under it, in an unbroken flood upon the ground.'

This tells me that you can never fully surpress the memories or thoughts of your past. The memories will always find their way into the light.

It was nice to read this during christmas and it made me reflect on what the ghosts would show me, and how I would react to it myself.
