The Venice Train by Georges Simenon
slow-paced
1.0
Started suspenseful but lost momentum halfway through. I guess I was hoping for more mystery and suspense but thisis actually a novel about a really pathetic guy worrying so much about taking money he could have just put back in the locker he found it in, thinking he has a controlled life when his family members worry about him, sleeping with another woman for no particular reason, and then jumping out a window . I would have preferred more focus on the actual crime. The main character is also weird about the female characters, especially when describing his prepubescent daughter in very objectifying ways that made me uncomfortable, which broke immersion every time.
