Well written, but melancholy or even sad. With what was about to occur, I identified with the decision of the main character. It would have been better in my opinion to include, at the end of the story, a glimmer of hope with the passengers of the Ark starting anew elsewhere.... Maybe even a slight rewrite in such a way that the newly discovered object that the main character discovered, being planted on the destination world.
