Read for my around the world challenge.
I chose this book because there was basically no other option of books set in Azerbaijan translated into English or Portuguese and affordable, but it's not a style I love, for starters.
The book tells four stories, surrounding a group of friends who lived in the same building during the 20th century in Baku. The book starts interesting and I thought there had potential, but the narrative choices were so weird. In the end, apart from the last part, it was all very boring and disconnected.
I also felt very strange hearing them talking about Armenia after both having just read my book for Armenia, set during the Armenian Genocide in WWI, and having seen the news and knowing what Azerbaijan is doing to armenians right now.
Not a bad book, but just... Unsatisfying.
