The Island by Ben Coes
2.0
I have big doubts about whether the author has even read his previous works based on this latest entry in the Dewey Andreas series. I was a big fan of this series but then we hit this book where it seems the author has had a bad case of amnesia and forgotten everything that has happened in the preceding books. Three examples:
1. Holly and Jessica were the only women he’d ever been with.
Erm, what about Daisy??!! Are we just forgetting that whole plotline. I mean there's one thing to basically forget all about her after book #7 and let the readers assume the fling is over but another to deny all existence of her!!!
2. Dewey's relationship with Jenna.
I've read book #8. There is absolutely no chemistry or UST between Dewey and Jenna or setup for their romance in this book. Okay this is a thriller not a romance novel so I am not expecting the greatest love story of all time but some groundwork would be nice
3. No Vice President.
WTF happened to the new Vice President sworn in during Book #7.5?!?!?!
As to this book itself, if you overlook those three major things, it was still rather meh. I mean the setup and plot have the makings of the most ridiculous OTT but exciting Blockbuster movie but it failed to deliver. Plus the word fusillade gets used 7 different times.
