Fairest of Heart by Karen Witemeyer
3.0
I was very excited for this book - a classic remade into a historical romance?!? YES PLEASE! The book was exciting and was an easy read. Author Karen Witemeyer did an excellent job taking all of those classical pieces you loved about Snow White and found a fanciful way to incorporate them into her story. I especially loved how she skillfully woven the faith elements into the story. As an avid Christian Fiction reader, I love it when a person’s faith takes center stage in their life and isn’t just sprinkled in as an afterthought.
One of the few setbacks I found with this book is how perfect the main character was. Our “snow white” seemed too fake to fit properly into this story, in my opinion. I know I may be in the minority after reading other reviews for this book but it didn’t seem normal how she so perfectly reacted to every situation life threw at her. With Penelope being the heroine of our story, I found her hard to relate to which is a bummer when reading. While a clean read, I also found the descriptions of the females' bodies and the feelings evoked from touches or kisses (or even thoughts of wanting/daydreaming about such things) were a bit spicier than a normal Christian Fiction book.
Overall the book is an excellent and entertaining read and given the right audience, I would happily recommend it!
