After the war of kinds, an artificial intelligent race called Automae have become the ruling class of Zulla. Crier, the sovereign’s daughter, and Ayla, a human servant, find their lives intertwined as a revolution brews and the anti-human movement rises.
Crier’s character in the beginning felt a bit stereotypical to me, but the progression of her personality was done really well. I loved seeing her develop her own thoughts and become more independent and rebellious.
Ayla’s history is a cool aspect of the story even though we don’t see a whole lot of it from her perspective. It adds some needed substance to the twists and mystery of the book.
One thing I wish we got to see more of was the ‘magic’ system with the makers because it is super interesting to me.I also think the one sided romance with Benjy towards Ayla was unnecessary. I’d rather see them have a familial/platonic love story. It wasn’t needed for tension or plot progression so I don’t know what it was added. Overall though I loved the world building and the characters. A great book to read in a day!
