Anything Tiffany D. Jackson writes is exceptional. This Carrie retelling did not disappoint at all. This book dives deep into bullying, racism, parental physical and mental abuse of a child, police brutality, and how everyone has a breaking point. Read all the triggers before going into this one!

Maddy was a character that I just wanted to hug. Her life was tragic, and her classmates or father did not help at all. I had a hard time feeling sorry for any of her classmates. They were horrible, and the small town that they lived in wasn't any better.

While this is a retelling, this book had a lot of its own twists and turns along the way. No character was safe in this book, and along the way, there was plenty of imagination about what happened to the characters at prom.

I usually don't like open-ended endings, but this one made me happy not to know what happened.
