Second books are a fickle thing. Gillig wrote this in her acknowledgments and I understand it, very well.
The finish of this series has its own nature, a little different from the first book as you don’t follow the story mainly out of Elspeth’s view. I guess, this is what made a bit more difficult to like than the first book. Nonetheless it deserves its 4 stars. The story, in mg opinion, ended on a great note. Giving this its rounded finish, balance.
And I shed a tear at the end of chapter fifty. If you get to it, you know why.
Because all comes to an end.
