I did really enjoy the concept of this novel and think it's a super important one for young people to read. There were some epic quotes in there that really hit the nail on the head of the thesis of the book
"I don't think you have any idea how little it actually takes to ban a human being, all it takes is for good people to stay silent and do nothing" and "hope is an act, not just a feeling. Hope is a choice, so are hate and cynicism and silence. Everyday I have to think about what I'm going to choose and so do you"
I think this book could've been shorter and focused more on the issues at hand rather than getting caught up in a bit of a love triangle, like we could've had her relationship with Andrew alongside the racism and book banning and that wouldve made sense but we didn't get to know Faiz well enough that I believed she couldn't decide between them both and in a book with such an important theme why do we need a teenage love triangle?????
Anyway, I did really enjoy this and think school libraries should have it on their shelf, really pleased to see a list of banned books in the back which actually lead the school library I work at to do some research into what they've banned in the states and do a display.
