Spare by Prince Harry

emotional funny informative inspiring sad medium-paced

3.5

Short version: You won't learn many new things by reading the book, but listening to the author read it was quite a delight.

Long version: This was a well-written, overhyped book. The leaking of a few chapters didn't encourage or discourage me from reading, and while they were taken out of context most of the time, the full stories weren't as exciting or evocative.

Prince Harry broke this book into three sections, with many short chapters. He started talking about his teenage years and reflecting on the loss of his mother and his relationship with his father and brother. The second section was about his time in the military -- which I found most fascinating. He ended it with the last 4-5 years, meeting his wife, having children, leaving the royal family, etc.

My opinion of Prince Harry remains the same after reading the book. Though I understand more why some of the challenges he faced were that gard for him, but wouldn't be for the rest of us.
