I absolutely adored this story. There’s so many layers and my initials thoughts won’t even give this story justice so I may come back with more. But right out the gate, I loved the characters, the growth and the development and the layers of Maddie, she is completely relatable on so many levels. All of the many themes within this story create space for an amazing discussion, like cultural traditions and expectations, mental health, grief, dysfunctional family dynamics, toxic family relationships, what dating looks like now vs how dating used to be, fetishes, gosh there’s just so much to unpack here.

There were many times, that I saw pieces of myself in Maddie’s life, like yea I’ve been there, I remember feeling very similar in response to “this moment”. And I appreciate being seen. I appreciate the unspoken being spoken. I appreciate going thru the tunnel but also seeing the glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel.

If you enjoyed Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? Or Queenie, this is definitely a fantastic book to pick up next!!
