Kate Quinn is my FAV author of #historicalfiction but her newest book #thediamondeye was outstanding. I learned so much about the role bad ass women, such as Lyudmila Pavlichenko, played as Soviet sharpshooters. There narrative timelines flipped between Lyudmila’s decision to enlist, training, and rise to notoriety as a sharpshooter with her later publicity tour in the US to convince the US to enter WWII and open a second front against the German advance. I loved her friendship with Elenor Roosevelt and was on pins and needles while reading about an assassination plot against FDR. Quinn makes her heroine relatable as a daughter, mother, and lover and as always left me hungry to learn more about these amazing women.
