Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee
1.0
DNF/5 Stars: ‘Forest of Souls’ (Book #1 of ‘Shamanborn’) by Lori M. Lee.
→ Age Range: Young Adult.
→ Genre: Magic, High Fantasy.
→ Trigger Warnings: Immolation, Oppression, Abuse.
In-depth Rating:
→ Plot: ★
→ Character Development: ★
→ Setting: ★
→ Entertainment Level: ★
→ Writing: ★★★
General Comments: An epic journey of political intrigue, magic, darkness, and platonic relationships. One unequivocally great aspect – with regard to the writing style – is how vivid, immersive and lyrical the descriptions are. That said, the magic system (as a whole) is slightly lacklustre, but definitely unique.
Individual passions and pursuits have a broad sociological impact; but the plot, as a result, suffers.
Favourite Quote: ‘For everyone who’s ever wondered if they were enough.’
Time Read: Eighteen Days (DNF @ 15%).
→ Audiobook: Yes.
→ Audiobook Narrator: Cindy Kay.
→ Age Range: Young Adult.
→ Genre: Magic, High Fantasy.
