I read this for the hype (and the fact that I've a soft spot for the enemies-to-lovers trope), but I actually wasn't too convinced about the storyline, the politics, and the romance. It was easy enough to read, however, the pages turning naturally and the set up of the political kingdoms interesting enough, but it didn't grip me as much as I thought it would. There were two (individual) high points for the two main leads, which I did enjoy reading because then it showed who they are as leaders in a high-stakes context (and oh how I wished people in governance would take note). I also wished side characters were more developed.
Overall, it was an okay read. I'd still (likely) read Book 2 if the opportunity presented itself, but I wouldn't go looking for it or recommend the duology to others.
