Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews

My sister told me to read this book. When I asked what it was about, she said that she couldn't really tell me without giving away the plot, but she said that it was disturbing and strange but addictive. She was right. I was horrified and enthralled at the same time, unable to stop reading.
Cathy, Chris, Corrie and Carrie are four blonde, beautiful children living an idyllic life. Their mother is gorgeous and perfect, and their father is the kindest man they know; he always showers them with love and brings home presents when he returns home from business trips. Then he dies, and their perfect life is destroyed. The Dollanganger family lived well beyond their means, and now there is no way to pay the debt. Corrine, the mother, is forced to write to her estranged mother, begging forgiveness for past actions, and plead for sanctuary for her and her children. But when the four children, nicknamed the Dresden Dolls for their beauty and perfection, arrive at the mansion of their grandparents, they do not recieve what they expected. They are not granted the wealthy, care free life that they were promised. Thus begins the story of the Flowers in the Attic.
