Sistersong by Lucy Holland
4.0
4.0 stars: This book is beautifully lyrical and gives voice to the folk tale of the Twa sisters - a story of jealousy and betrayal- with a deeper dive into the intricacies of the relationships between the siblings. It was a story I was not extremely familiar with so all the twists and turns of this book were jaw-dropping (except for that of Tristan - that was pretty obvious for me and maybe that’s what the author intended). At the end, I thoroughly enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It’s such a refreshing take on this genre because it’s written less like a happy fairytale and more like Brother Grimm. I will say I wish the first half of this book was as gripping as the second half. For me personally, I felt like the beginning was trudging through the story, but I do understand the slow setup for the fast paced second half of the story. Definitely a book up there for those who enjoyed Circe and are okay with an ending that’s not rainbows and butterflies.
