The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry
Audio – really wish I had read it hardcopy. Loved this book. In 1939, 14-year-old Hazel and her five-year-old sister Flora are sent from war to London to limit the countryside where they would be safe. They end up living with Bridie and her 14 year-old son Harry and for a year it's almost magical. Harry shows them the wonders of the countryside and Hazel creates a fairytale story about a magical land that only she and her sister know about but then one day Flora disappears and everything changes. 15 years later, Hazel is trying to go on with her life when suddenly a package lands on her desk that brings thepast back. A story about sisterly love, romantic love, part thriller, part historic fiction and the overarching love for and affect that stories have in our lives.
