This book was not what I thought it would be and turns out, I loved it. It doesn’t have a linear structure or plot because it’s more literary-based—subtly following the lives of the characters and how they connect through the bookshop. The book picks up years after the main character opens the bookshop and doesn’t tell the story conventionally. It feels more like nonfiction\self-help told in a fictional setting… if that makes sense. Despite that, this is the kind of book readers see themselves in. It’s comforting and relatable, leaving you feeling hopeful and wanting to do more for yourself (give yourself grace, essentially). I didn’t want this to end; I deliberately read it slowly and tried to put it off, but it’s a library book so I had to give it up. Although, I made sure to grab my own copy. The text looks blocky but it’s so easy to read and get lost in; I’d sit down and thirty pages would go by in a flash. The only thing I’d say I had a problem with was the lack of dialogue tags. It was hard to tell who was saying what at times. Other than that, this was an amazing experience!
