Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley

4.0

Format: Print

I was a bit nervous about picking this up after how much I enjoyed Firekeeper’s Daughter but I really didn’t need to be because Angeline Boulley knocked it out of the park yet again. I loved this. Not as much as FKD, and I think that is probably a reflection on the fact that we are following younger characters in this story, and it definitely showed. There was an impulsiveness and naivety to our characters in WGU that I don’t think was in FKD and it just held me back a bit.

But what I really liked about this book was the fact that we learned so much about the author’s tribe and culture, and particularly about NAGPRA, both through the story and the author’s note at the end. This isn’t something I ever learned about at school and I think a book like this is a great way of introducing this to an unfamiliar audience.

I’m very excited to see what Angeline Boulley writes next.
