Insatiable by Meg Cabot

3.0

If Carrie Bradshaw fell in love with Dracula in the streets of Manhattan, you'd probably end up with something very close to "Insatiable". Meg Cabot may be best known for her young adult fiction, but here she takes aim at the grown-up audience in a silly but engaging chick-lit vampire tale for the "Sex and the City" crowd.

Meena Harper writes dialogue for a popular TV soap opera which, in order to keep up in the ratings, has just decided to add a vampire story line. And, as Meena is quick to state -- loudly and often -- she is so, so sick of vampire stories. When a mysterious and dashing Romanian prince shows up on Park Avenue, however, all bets are off.

"Insatiable" features clever one-liners, a fast-paced adventure, lots of jabs at today's cultural obsession with vampires (especially the sparkly, angst-ridden types), and some enjoyable supporting characters.

This is a fun read, but not much more than that. I wouldn't put it on my can't-miss list. On the other hand, I do intend to read the sequel, so I guess I did enjoy it, pop-culture silliness and all.
