After You by Jojo Moyes
3.0
I started After You straight after finishing Me Before You, keen to continue reading about Louisa's life. I completely fell in love with her character in MBY, her uniqueness and charming nature. After Will's death, Louisa is grieving the loss and you clearly see her charismatic personality dimmed in this book. I was so disappointed with her character development, wishing she would listen to the life lessons that Will gave her and start living her life. But I think Moyes wanted to demonstrate the reality of grief, it's simply not as easy as taking risks as soon as you're told "life is short".
There were twists I didn't see coming, the main plot follows the "stranger on the doorstep", I won't reveal the spoiler but I thought that this was a satisfying arc in the story. My main issue with the book was the romance which in my opinion was ill-conceived. As I didn't enjoy this storyline I felt very frustrated with Louisa's choices throughout the book. However, this is concluded and the ending of the book is very promising for the premise of the 3rd book in the series, Still Me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
