Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
5.0
What I Liked
This is a phenomenal piece of classic literature with just the right combination between 50s culture and dystopia. I was absorbed through every line of this story. I had to read this novel in middle school - and now I believe I was too young. I didn't appreciate this, I didn't enjoy reading it, and over 10 years later, my mind has been blown by the beauty of this dystopian novel.
Bradbury's prose is beautiful to me. Every line is a work of art, and as a writer, that is something I appreciate now more than ever.
The atmosphere of this novel is fantastically disturbing. I was equally haunted and thrilled by the scene when.
What I Didn't Like
As a book about censorship, Fahrenheit 451 holds power. As a prediction of the future, it comes across as silly. Television hasn't destroyed the value of books. Cellular phones have not demolished civilized society. Bradbury's fears seem stodgy and comical compared to the terrors behind 1984, for example.
